Day19: Process Workshop

Objectives: We will be able to
  • Analyze the target article to build comprehension. 
  • Examine the specific organization of a process paragraph. 
  • Develop an outline for a process paragraph.


Warm-up (10min)
Take out Reading: Vaccine Production Process & Reading Comprehension Questions.
Expressions in Vaccine Production Process



Reading Comprehension Discussion (20 min)
In your groups, discuss the questions you have answered. You can have go-around table discussion.
Debrief as a class about challenging questions ONLY.
Let them visualize the process of vaccine production on the pad in groups.



Outlining for Academic Writing Process (20 min)
Open your reflective essay #1. There was a question about your positive writing experiences.
Talk to your neighbor about whether you actually talked about the process or not.
  • What process did you go through?
    Please elaborate on each steps by describing what you actually did and why you did.
If you have talked about process, you did a good job! Use that part as a starting point.
If you do NOT have the process part,
Please think about the process of academic writing in general.

PLEASE BRING UIUC APA HANDBOOK to next class.




Homework due Oct. 10th, Thursday, 11:59PM
1. Revisions for APA style in-text citations
     Correct all the mistakes you made.

2. Write a paragraph that discusses the process of academic writing.
  • Please remember to include at least TWO the signal expressions we have learned.
  • Please include at least ONE strong version of paraphrase of information from the sources: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/1/1/
  • Do not forget to use APA In-text citations, but do NOT use direct quotations.
  • Name the file "Process_draft_YOURNAME". 
  • Save/upload the file into the Unit2. subfolder of your Google Drive.
  • Word limit: 200-250 words
