Day10: Writing Conclusions

Objectives: We will be able to...
  • Identify the key components of a good concluding paragraph.
  • Practice writing a conclusion of an argumentative essay and peer review others’ conclusions.
  • Review the main components of introductions and conclusions of argumentative essays.



Challenging Topics? Poll (5min)

Warm Up and Review (10 min)
Open the document SAMPLE ESSAY.
Read the introduction paragraph and then highlight it to show the different parts of an introduction paragraph.

Analyzing sample conclusion paragraphs (5 min)
Read the rest of the SAMPLE ESSAY. They to pull out the important parts of the conclusion paragraph. We will have a short discussion to discover what information we noticed that the author included in the conclusion.

Conclusion (5 min)
In groups of 3 or 4, put the scrambled sentences into the right order.
You should be able to provide the reasons why you think the order is the best one.

Rubric Awareness & Revising Conclusions (10min)
Go over some important points in the rubric.
For the remaining time, start revising the conclusion.



Homework due Sep. 19th, Thursday, 11:59PM
1. Required Writer's Help Exercise: Topic Sentences

2. Revise the conclusion paragraph of your diagnostic essay.
Open your "Revised_Diagnostic_Essay_YOURNAME" you created for the previous assignment and revise the conclusion paragraph.
Make sure that the file is saved in your Google Drive folder, called Unit 1.
For your homework, you may read the diagnostic prompt and article once again.

Final outline and revised essay (Major Assignments for Unit 1.)
are due Sep. 22nd, Sunday, 11:59 PM
